Case Studies
Case Study 1 – Rural Farm
We were asked to investigate delivering high speed internet service to a stud farm in rural Wiltshire. This involved arranging the trenching of over 1km of fibre-optic cable from a nearby Openreach fibre node to a house on a hilltop. From the house, (which also now benefits from superfast internet!), we used a microwave link to the next hilltop approx 1km further towards the farm. On this hilltop we installed an 8 metre telegraph pole with microwave dishes. This beamed the signal down the valley into the customer’s farm. From here we used short-distance microwave links to connect up various properties at the site. We have since installed a VoIP phone service to one of the customers on the site.
Installation of our fibre cabinet adjacent to Openreach pit containing fibre T-node (for leased line) Trenching fibre and power across farmland to remote Openreach leased line cabinet Spooling out cable prior to trenching Microwave dish at one side of the link Installing the far end of the circuit to the stud farm
Case Study 2 – Rural village
We installed a leased line into a house at the centre of the village of Upton, near Andover, with the help of the owner. From there we transmit the signal around the village via wireless, We installed a hilltop repeater, powered exclusively by solar and wind, which helps us reach some of the outlying properties. It also enables us to offer service over to Vernham Dean on the other side of the valley.
